Project Overview
Rehabilitation works to vertical and raked concrete columns to prevent further degradation of the structure improve the aesthetics and extend the life of the structure.
Scope of Work
Smart Civils’ scope included:
- Sampling and testing
- Crack repairs
- Spalling repairs
- Surface preparations high pressure washing the concrete column with biodegradable detergent.
- Application of protective coatings.
Summary Of Execution Of Works
Access scaffolding provided by others to access the 18 meter concrete columns from of column to ground level. A proper investigation on the column is conducted which includes hammer testing, crack identification to be exposed for further investigation and spalling identification. The cracks widths are measured to identify repair methods and repair accordingly. Sampling and testing areas if required are identified rebar scanning and core extraction is done. Spalling areas are hammer tested and marked the full extent of the repair, cutting and breaking the concrete along the exposed rebar wet abrasive and coated with primer, repair mortar Sika monoTop 4012za is used to repair after pre saturation for 2 hours of the existing concrete.
Cutting and breaking concrete off around embedded steel elements to expose steel for protective coatings (by others). Drilling holes around the steel elements to inject MCI 2020 Gel for rebar protection. Surface preparation, cutting and chipping concrete to expose the exterior of the pipe in the lifting hole, packing the hole with dry mix and monotop system to close the hole and flash with existing concrete.
High pressure washing with biodegradable detergent the concrete column and application of Tammsprimer 686 allow to cure and 2 coats of sikagard 550 elastic respective of drying times in between and environmental conditions.
